Samsung and LG have a new OLED rival Allied forces are gunning for the OLED crown. CLUB386 By Blair Jacobs - 25/04/2024 Samsung and LG have been the forerunners of OLED display technology with little to no competition. Fortunately, there’s a new OLED panel maker in town, and it has its sights set on the number one spot. The company, Japan Display (JDI), and its new eLEAP type of OLED panels will enter production by the end of 2024. JDI announced the tech in 2022 with lofty claims that it developed a “historic breakthrough in display technology.” eLEAP is a new manufacturing process developed via a joint venture between Sony, Toshiba, and Hitachi’s display panel divisions. The process is a cost-effective solution that’s used to create freeform OLEDs that are brighter, more efficient, and long-lasting when compared to the OLED panel types on the market today. The breakdown In comparison, JDI claims its OLED variant offers twice the peak brightness, three times the life span, and twice the emission efficiency. This is achieved by its larger aperture ratio and maskless deposition process. The aperture ratio of an OLED pixel determines how much light it can generate. Typical OLED displays have an aperture ratio of about 28%, whereas eLEAP displays offer up to a whopping 60%. On the other hand, today’s OLED panels are produced using Fine-Metal-Mask (FMM) technology. This method has been the remaining bottleneck for the wider application of OLED displays. FMM is a complex and expensive process because it can only be created in an ambient vacuum environment. It is the main reason why OLED displays are so expensive to manufacture. More defects encountered during the process also lead to less product yield and more material waste. The benefits of eLEAP is in its name: environment positive; Lithography with maskless deposition; Extreme long life, low power, and high luminance; Any shape Patterning. Quite the mouthful and not quite a proper acronym. Nevertheless, removing this complex metal masking process allows JDI to create higher-performance OLEDs at a much lower cost. Should Samsung and LG be worried? Well, not quite yet. The display tech is still limited to its smaller 6-Gen substrate line. JDI initially plans to target smaller products like laptops, smartphones, car displays and wearable tech, at least for now. Thereafter, it can scale the process up to its 8-Gen (2200x2500mm) substrate line, which will allow for larger monitors and TVs. If all goes to plan, this will enter mass production by 2027.

Japan Display to debut alternative eLEAP OLED displays later this year HDTVtest By Mike Wheatley - 23 April 2024 Japan Display has revealed that its much-vaunted eLEAP OLED technology is ready for mass production, and it will launch its first displays ahead of schedule. It’s aiming to deliver its first products by the end of the year, targeting laptops, smartphones and wearable devices initially. The eLEAP OLED technology is an alternative to regular RGB OLED, LG Display’s WRGB OLED and Samsung Display’s QD-OLED, and it has been created by Japan Display, which is a joint venture between Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi’s display panel-making business. The company first revealed eLEAP OLED back in May 2022, making some impressive claims such as its ability to deliver twice the peak brightness of other OLED variants, twice the efficiency and three-times longer lifespans. The key advantage of Japan Display’s eLEAP is its larger aperture ratio, which refers to how much of the space in each OLED pixel can be used to generate light. The larger the space devoted to producing light, the brighter the pixel will be. With conventional OLED displays, the aperture ratio is a mere 28%, but with eLEAP, Japan Display says it has expanded this to 60%. It's not clear how eLEAP stacks up to the most recent generation of OLED displays, however. The term eLEAP is an abbreviation of the tongue twisting technical verbiage “Environment positive, Lithography with maskless deposition, Extreme long life, low power, and high luminance, Any shape Patterning”. It’s the first OLED display that uses photolithography techniques for maskless deposition, which also contributes to the higher brightness and longer lifespan. The company promised to commence mass production of eLEAP displays in 2025, but today’s announcement indicates that it is well ahead of that original schedule. In a statement, Japan Display explained that it first began test production in October 2023 and is now ramping up for eLEAP mass production at its G6 fab in Mobara, Japan, by December 2024. “The production ramp is well ahead of plan: eight months ahead of launch, JDI has already achieved a production yield of over 60%, underscoring that JDI has successfully overcome the key technical hurdles for launch,” the company stated proudly. “JDI will supply eLEAP for use in a wide array of end-use applications, including smartwatches & wearables, smartphones, notebook PCs, and automotive displays.” The G6 fab in Japan is one of a couple that will ultimately start mass producing eLEAP OLED displays. Last year, Japan Display announced it had formed a strategic alliance with a Chinese display maker called HKC, in order to construct what it says would be “world-class eLeap fabs” in China. FlatPanels HD says HKC has since abandoned the project, but Japan Display plans to press on with what will be an 8.7 Generation plant when it comes online. The facility won’t be ready until 2027 at the earliest, but when it is up and running it will allow the company to manufacture much larger eLEAP OLED panels for TVs. Japan Display said one of its first eLEAP products will be a 14-inch display intended for laptops. It will be based on a “single-stack structure” and be able to hit a peak brightness of 1,600 nits. When using a tandem structure, eLEAP can achieve even higher brightness levels that exceed 3,000 nits, the company said. Japan Display has not yet announced any partnerships, so we will have to wait and see which brands choose to adopt the technology.

SCHOOL STARTS IN AFGHANISTAN WITHOUT GIRLS We turn now to Afghanistan, where a new school year has started, but without girls. The Taliban have prohibited female students from receiving education beyond the sixth grade. The move has drawn growing international criticism. Schools across Afghanistan began classes this week for the new academic year. The Taliban have been governing the country based on their own interpretation of Islamic law since retaking power three years ago. The group has barred women from higher education. This 14-year-old girl says she's very disappointed. She had prepared a bag and a uniform, hoping the Taliban would allow them to join classes. (Girl) “It's very painful that schools are still closed to us. I want authorities to reopen them. Girls also have dreams of becoming doctors or engineers in the future.”

President Donald J. Trump In Addition to being prohibited from attending my son Barron’s High School Graduation, I have just learned that the highly biased Judge in the Soros “appointed” D.A. Alvin Bragg’s Witch Hunt Case, will not allow me to attend the historic PRESIDENTIAL IMMUNITY argument in front of The United States Supreme Court, on Thursday, April 25th (next week!). This shows such great disdain and disrespect for our Nation’s Highest Court, especially for a topic so important as Presidential Immunity, without which our Country would never be the same! 2-1/1

President Donald J. Trump Mike has been getting very bad advice from Mark Long, & others. That’s why he’s polling at 1%. With better advice, he would be polling at a solid 2%, and maybe even more!!! Everyone must ask Democrats if they would allow abortions in the 7th, 8th, or 9th month, or allow the execution of a baby after birth, as was suggested by the former Democrat Governor of Virginia. They are the Radicals, not the Republicans! 2/2

President Donald J. Trump His Radicalized Family will never allow him to be a Republican, and his Chief “Funder” is the V.P. Candidate that nobody ever heard of, except her ex-husband, who’s been stripped of a big chunk of cash. She puts herself down as a businesswoman, or maybe a doctor, and actually, I guess you could say that she’s right. Her business was doing surgery on her husband’s wallet! She’s more Liberal than Junior’ by far, not a serious person, and only a Pot of Cash to help get her No Chance Candidate on the Ballot. 2-2/4
