Visa Flexible Credential A Visa study found that more than half of card users want the power to access multiple accounts through a single credential.1 The Visa Flexible Credential will allow a single card product to toggle between payment methods, putting the power of choice in the hands of the consumer. Now people can easily set parameters or choose whether they use debit, credit, “pay-in-four” with Buy Now Pay Later or even pay using rewards points. Visa Flexible Credential is live in Asia and will be launching with Affirm later this summer in the U.S.

Shocking stat of the day: $2.1 TRILLION of excess savings have been wiped out of the US economy since August 2021. From March 2020 until August 2021, $2.1 trillion in excess savings were built up after $4 trillion of stimulus. Since then, US households have depleted these savings at a pace of ~$70 billion per month down to a -$72 billion in March 2024. At the same time, US credit card debt has risen by $330 billion to a record $1.1 trillion. Meanwhile, savings rates in the US declined from 3.5% in February to 3.2% in March, the lowest since November 2022. Recent stats about credit card debt: 61% of Americans aged 18-64 paid for their groceries with a credit card in 2023. 19% of adults in the US used savings not intended for routine living expenses and 3.5% exploited the Buy Now, Pay Later option. 20% of adults who used credit cards did not pay the full balance but met the required payment. However, 25% of those with very low food security did not even pay the minimum required payment on their credit cards.
